Aoa and Aon free essay sample

1. Introduction Projects or tenders that a company needs to run, usually preceded by a plan before it can be executing for further development. Project management can be used for planning, controlling, and monitoring a project and usually it is conducted by a planner such as Project Manager. Gantt chart is the good way to show the planning of a project. It is easy to understand and update as a project develops. But the networks of a project are not easy to understand if they have critical paths, dummy activities, nodes and crashing. Usually, many project planners tend to avoid them. The objectives of the project management are to allocate timing to the activities that are critical and not critical, to maximize the use of the resources and find ways to reduce the total project time. Two type of planning method is use to plan a project which is Activity on Arrow (AOA) and Activity on Node (AON). Method of Project Management Planning-Activity on Arrow (AOA) Activity on Arrow usually uses an arrow to connect each activity from the start until the end of the project. It might give a problem if the activity is too much and too long. Other people that not major in project management might not understand the project planning. Activity on Arrow is difficult to make the transition from Gantt charts and they can be difficult for computers to handle and manipulate. This method contain of Critical Path Method (CPM), Critical Path Analysis (CPA), Critical Path Scheduling (CPS) and Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT). Figures 1 below show the example of AOA method use for execute a project. In AOA representation format, the statement such as Tailnode, Headnode and Duration variable is required. 3. Method of Project Management Planning-Activity on Node (AON) In Activity on Node method, the orientation of the diagram is much easier to understand than the Activity on Arrow method. The diagram of AON method shows the activities on node or vertices of the network. This method is known also as the Precedence Diagramming Method (PDM). This method is more flexible because it enables you to specify nonstandard precedence relationships between the activities. The statement such as activity, successor and duration variable is required to schedule the projects. The AON method has the characteristic such as: a)Box represents each activity with duration. b)Activity dependency is shown by a line between boxes. c)Each project has single start and Finish activities. These may be of zero duration. d)Each network path is continuous and activities are assigned as unique numbers. e)Line length is meaningless and arrow heads are optional. f)Subnetworks can combine to make a master network. g)There are no dummy activities with the precedence diagram.
